The BuyGist:

  • On June 30th, we completed our 3 year track-record of The Buylyst Portfolio.
  • We go through some of the salient lesson we've learned - viscerally - over the last 3 years.
  • We end with some tenets of investing that we'll stick to over the next 3 years.

How it’s going…

Our 3-year anniversary marks a big step for us. We can now claim to have a long enough track record – long enough that a large part of our performance can be attributed to skill, guts, blood, sweat and tears…, rather than plain old luck. Well, we can never rule out the role of luck or randomness. But as we garner more years, more episodes of jubilation and despair, more gray hair, the role of luck subsides. We’ll be the first to admit that we can never precisely split up our performance into “skill” and “luck”. Nobody can. Our performance so far is some combination of both. After 3 years, we hope it’s more skill than luck. By skill, we mostly mean Discipline – to do the work, and to be emotionally resilient to all the noise in the markets.

The numbers look fine so far. But it wasn’t a smooth ride. We’ve taken some knocks along the way. But that’s how we grow, isn’t it? No pain, no gain.
